Escape to the beautiful sound world of Beethoven’s Triple Concerto in our first half, courtesy of tonight's soloists Rowan Bell, Stephan Rees and Craig Greene. After the interval we welcome Pegasus Chamber Choir, who join us to perform Mozart’s enigmatic Requiem Mass. One of the greatest choral masterpieces ever written, the Requiem was the last work Mozart composed and remained incomplete at his death in 1791. Franz Süssmayr completed the Requiem within one hundred days of Mozart’s paupers burial, supposedly aided by instructions left by the late composer on his death bed. ***The NET Proceeds of tonight's concert goes to CLIC Sargent, Britain's leading Children's cancer charity. Every day 10 families are told that their child has cancer. Diagnosis often comes as a shock. Treatment usually starts straightaway and can last up to three years. As the children’s cancer charity, CLIC Sargent is there with clinical, practical and emotional support, every step of the way. Currently CLIC Sargent saves 2 in every 3 children under its care. Join us tonight to help change the life of the 1 in 3 that is not so lucky, and the many more who the charity's overburdened resources cannot touch.***

Bach B Minor Mass

Pamela Spofforth Memorial Concert London Bach Society’s Bachfest celebrating the centenary of Paul Steinitz

Bach Mass in B minor

(download pdf flyer) Julia Doyle soprano Diana Moore alto Charles Daniels tenor Peter Harvey baritone Adrian Butterfield conductor Pegasus Choir Orchestra of Pro Corda Alumni, Alison Bury leader Pamela Spofforth was an extraordinary and inspiring violin teacher and, with cellist Elizabeth Hewlins, brought about no less than a transformation of the playing of chamber music in this country. Pro Corda, which they founded in 1969 and continues to flourish, has inspired two generations of young musicians with the joys and challenges of playing string quartets and Pamela devoted her time, energy and money to that end throughout her working life. The astounding number of former Pro Corda students who are active in the profession today as well as an equally large number who, though not active professionally, have been inspired with a lifelong passion for music is her marvellous and enduring legacy. This performance is being promoted by Pro Corda (International Chamber Music Academy) in memory of co-founder Pamela Spofforth MBE who died last December. All the proceeds from this concert will go towards a Scholarship Fund set up in Pamela Spofforth’s memory. Paul Steinitz was a Patron of Pro Corda from 1977-1988.
